PUYO PUYO CD (COMPILE / NEC AVENUE)

SUPER CD-ROM 2 (JAPANESE VERSION)

Compile has always been distincted as one of the greatest shooter producers of all-time. Games like Aleste 2 (MSX2) and Spriggan (PC-ENGINE) are masterpieces that still shine, even when compared to more recent shooters. No-one could ever imagine that, a few years later, the bestselling Compile game ever would be... a puzzle!

Puyo Puyo had been originally released on the MSX2, and it has become a surprising success, being ported to several consoles and computers systems. Resembling games like Tetris and Columns, Puyo Puyo had a peculiar feature, which certainly helped a lot to make of this game a massive hit: you have to keep yourself alive and, at the same time, do whatever you can to cheat on your opponent! Quite an immoral behavior, but which creates an unbelievable competitive mood! :)

Puyo Puyo on PC-ENGINE had been made by Compile itself, along with NEC Avenue. The game is excellent, with some hilarious dialogs and two simultaneous players option. The only negative aspect is the absence of CD musics throughout the game... the PGM soundtrack is cool, but there´s always a feeling that "it would have been amazing to hear that tune on CD!".

Even so, Puyo Puyo is always a highly recommended game, which will certainly entertain people of all ages!
