DOWNLOAD II (NEC AVENUE)

CD-ROM 2 SYSTEM (JAPANESE VERSION)

Download, released in Japan on June, 1990, on Hu-Card format, is still considered one of the best shooters ever produced for PC-ENGINE. With a great amount of animated cinemas, specially if we remember it's a mere 4 Mbit game, Download was a massive hit, and it has become a cult nowadays. It was no surprise, so, the release of Download II in CD-ROM System 2 format, in the beginning of 1991.

With a slightly different way to equip your ship, comparing to the first game, Download II hasn't lose in playability, and was incredibly boosted with the high storage capacity of CD-ROM. Its animated sequences are among the best on PC-ENGINE, with a very inovator and peculiar style. The soundtrack, which was excellent on Download, simply rocks on Download II, reminding some of the best old Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden songs and fitting flawlessly on each stage.
Oh, I've almost forgotten to tell one more thing: the game is damn hard!! :)

Just as in the first game, most of the stages run inside a computer (!!), where the hero Syd is contantly transported to, after being dematerialized (these sequences kick asses), but the final goal, of course, is different from the first game. There are some interesting stuffs about the true enemy in Download II. We'll not say anything here, but we truly encourage the player to pay attention on details during the game...and, maybe, solve this mystery before the end.

Download II is a terrific game! It runs close to Lords of Thunder, just a little behind, on overall, but it has no rival among CD-ROM System 2 shooters, with the exception of Spriggan. It has an original plot, awesome graphics and it is extremely inovator on its action. You must have it!
