CHIKI CHIKI BOYS (NEC AVENUE / CAPCOM)

SUPER CD-ROM 2 (JAPANESE VERSION)

Though it's widely recognized as one of all-time favorite consoles for shooters, along with the Sega Saturn, the PC-ENGINE was also proud to bring fans a lot of outstanding action and platform games. Some softhouses used well the PCE graphic resources (giant sprites, good palette, etc), in games such as Dracula X, Kaze Kiri and Shubibinman 3.

Chiki Chiki Boys, though is one of the less known platform games on the PCE, is certainly one of the best. Originally created by Capcom back in 1990, as a CPS-1 game, Chiki Chiki Boys (or Mega Twins) had been converted to PC-ENGINE by NEC Avenue, in 1994... a curious info: NEC Avenue converted most of the Capcom titles to the PCE, no matter if HU-Cards or CD games ("honorable" exception is the awful Fighting Street, converted by Hudson Soft).

The weak plot, talking about two powerful twins struggling against the dark forces, doesn't matter at all while you're playing. There's even an option for two simultaneous players, pretty rare feature on PCE platform games. Besides, the game is virtually identical to the Arcade original game. With an amazing gameplay, along with detailed and well colored graphics, Chiki Chiki Boys keeps the interest on high levels all the time. The PCE version loses a little with the lack of the parallax scrolling, but also gains a lot with the Audio-CD soundtrack (pretty nice tunes, by the way).

Don't be influenced by its ridiculous name! Chiki Chiki Boys is a gorgeous platform game, and one of best Arcade game conversions ever made on the PC-ENGINE. Highly recommended!
