DEAD OF THE BRAIN I & II (NEC AVENUE)

SUPER CD-ROM 2 (JAPANESE VERSION

A lot of reasons can make a simple game become a cult one: an awesome plot, innovations on technical aspects, or even a nice marketing attitude. Dead of the Brain fits like a glove on that description. On MSX2, for example, DOTB has always been incredibly hard to be found, and many people wonder if it had really been released (believe it or not, it really exists!). Well, this is nothing compared to the eccentric PC-ENGINE's Dead of the Brain I & II release, in 1999...4 years after the official "funeral" of PC-ENGINE!

Dead of the Brain I & II is the very same game released for PC-98, with more colorful graphics, some CD musics and thousands of spoken dialogues. The story...well..."stole" a lot of things from George Romero's zombies masterpiece "The Night of the Living-Dead". But Romero would be glad with the game, which has a terrifying mood and a really frightening visual. Dead of the Brain is probably one of the most shocking games ever made, not recommended for the heart-fainted and forbidden for people under 18.

As it can be figured out, the CD has two games. While in games like YS Book I&II or XAK I&II, you have to finish the first game to gain access to the second one, in Dead of the Brain I & II it's possible to play both of them, whenever you want. DOTB is an adventure, or digital-comic, similar to Snatcher. It is in Japanese, but its options and commands are in English. So, you might even don't understand a line of the story, but you'll know exactly what you're doing, when you choose each option...which is REALLY helpful!!

Dead of the Brain I & II is an excellent game. It's well made, full of violent shots, a truly catching game. Besides, it will ever be remembered as the last commercial PC-ENGINE game ever produced, which is quite an honor!
